Ways to Access Our Services

Finding the right access pathway for you

We offer a range of ways to access our services, including Medicare-rebated sessions, EAP and MAP arrangements, private health fund rebates, and self-funded appointments. No single pathway suits everyone, and we are happy to discuss the options that best fit your circumstances before you book.

Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP)

A Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) allows you to claim a Medicare rebate for psychological services under the Better Access initiative. Your GP or Psychiatrist can assess your eligibility and prepare an MHTP, which provides access to up to 10 individually rebated sessions per calendar year with a registered psychologist.

Sessions are structured in two blocks. Your GP will initially refer you for up to six sessions. After completing those sessions, your MINDCHECK HP psychologist will provide a brief progress report to your GP. You will then need to return to your GP for a review before accessing the remaining four sessions. This review is a Medicare requirement, and your GP will need to confirm the plan before the next block of sessions can be claimed.

To access this pathway, speak with your GP or Psychiatrist about your eligibility and ask for both an MHTP and a referral letter addressed to MINDCHECK HP. Both documents are required to claim your Medicare rebate. Please arrange for these to be sent to us prior to your initial consultation, or bring them to your first appointment.

Telehealth sessions are eligible for Medicare rebates under an MHTP, subject to Medicare’s established clinical relationship requirements.

As of July 2026, the current Medicare rebate is $149.05 per session. Follow this link to review the current MHTP Medicare Benefits Schedule rebate.

GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP)

A GP Chronic Condition Management Plan may be an alternative referral pathway if you have a chronic medical condition that has been, or is likely to be, present for six months or more. There is no fixed list of eligible conditions. Your GP will assess whether this plan is appropriate based on their clinical judgment and your circumstances.

Under a GPCCMP, you can access up to five Medicare-rebated allied health sessions per calendar year, including psychology. These sessions can be directed to a single allied health provider or shared across multiple disciplines (for example, psychology and physiotherapy) and the allocation is yours to decide in consultation with your providers.

As of July 2026, the current Medicare rebate is $63.40 per session. Follow this link to review the current GPCCMP Medicare Benefits Schedule rebate.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and Member Assistance Program (MAP)

If your employer or professional association provides an EAP or MAP, you may be able to access a number of sessions at no cost. MINDCHECK HP is an approved EAP and MAP provider for a number of professional bodies and organisations, including Optometry Australia, whose members can access up to three confidential sessions at no cost.

If you are accessing MINDCHECK HP through an EAP or MAP arrangement, please advise us of this when booking. EAP and MAP sessions are completely confidential; we do not share any identifying information with your employer or professional association.

If you are a locum practitioner, contractor, or self-employed and do not have access to a workplace EAP, private and Medicare-rebated pathways remain available to you.

Private Health Fund

If you are not claiming a Medicare rebate, you may be eligible for a rebate through your private health fund depending on your level of cover. Psychology services are covered under extras cover by many private health insurers. Contact your insurer directly to confirm the level of coverage under your policy.

Please note that you cannot claim both a Medicare rebate and a private health fund rebate for the same session.

Third Party Funding - WorkCover and Insurance

If your consultations are funded by a third party, including WorkCover, an insurer, or another funding body, please contact us prior to booking your initial appointment. You will need to provide all relevant documentation and claim details before your first consultation so that the appropriate billing arrangements can be confirmed.

WorkCover clients: A gap payment applies to WorkCover-funded sessions. Please confirm the amount with us when your claim details are provided.

Private (Self-Funded)

You may choose to access our services privately without a referral or third-party cover. Private appointments are available without a Mental Health Treatment Plan and are not subject to session limits.
