Psychologist for Allied Health Professionals

Confidential psychological support for allied health professionals from a team who understands the demands of working in healthcare

Understanding the pressures of allied health work

Allied health professionals play an essential role in healthcare, often working across complex clinical presentations, multidisciplinary teams, and increasingly demanding practice environments. Psychologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, social workers, dietitians, podiatrists, radiographers, sonographers, exercise physiologists, and many other professionals manage the demands of patient care alongside the organisational and professional pressures of healthcare.

The nature of allied health work can bring its own challenges, including high clinical workloads, emotionally demanding patient care, complex presentations, multidisciplinary relationships, professional expectations, and the responsibility of supporting others while maintaining your own wellbeing. Research across allied health professions has identified burnout and occupational stress as important areas of concern, although experiences and contributing factors vary between professions and practice settings.

For some allied health professionals, seeking psychological support can also feel complicated. You may work closely with psychologists or other health professionals, share professional networks, or have concerns about confidentiality and how seeking support may be perceived within your workplace or profession.

MINDCHECK HP provides psychological support exclusively to health professionals and their immediate family members. We understand that the person behind the clinician may be navigating challenges at work, in their personal life, or both.

How we work with allied health professionals

Our psychologists understand the allied health context, including patient-facing clinical work, multidisciplinary practice, supervision and professional development, and the different demands that can arise across private practice, hospital, community, and other healthcare settings.

We support allied health professionals across all career stages and practice settings:

What we support

Common reasons allied health professionals come to MINDCHECK HP include burnout and emotional exhaustion, stress and anxiety, performance anxiety and perfectionism, and the emotional impact of complex or distressing patient presentations.

Workplace challenges including conflict, bullying, organisational pressures, moral distress, professional identity, and career challenges are also common presenting concerns.

We also support allied health professionals with relationship and family difficulties, sleep difficulties, adjustment to new roles or stages of career, and challenges outside work, including parenting, grief and loss, and other personal experiences that may affect wellbeing.
