Michael endeavours to create a meaningful therapeutic experience for clients, supporting Health Professionals and their families to manage psychological challenges and improve their quality of life. He is dedicated to being warm and empathic, and treating clients with respect through the recognition of the uniqueness of their life, situation, and personal strengths.
Michael has diverse experience working with a broad spectrum of clients and complex presentations. He has particular experience and interest in supporting clients broadly with their psychological distress and functioning, including depression, anxiety, complex trauma, workplace difficulties, self-care, moral injury, adjustment issues, attachment, and health and wellbeing.
Michael draws from several evidence-based approaches, such as cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy, and compassion focused therapy, to deliver individualised treatment to clients. He aims to deliver psychotherapy in a pragmatic and cooperative manner. Michael places a strong emphasis on the individual as part of a wider ecosystem and understanding the interaction between a client and their environment.
Since completing his studies, Michael has gained experience in QLD and NSW Health and non-government roles. He has spent time working as a staff clinician at a major hospital providing psychological support to a diverse range of health professionals. Michael also has experience supporting adults with chronic health conditions, and also working with high-risk and complex adolescents and their families in both community and hospital settings. In addition to his role at MINDCHECK HP Michael also works in a forensic clinical role, which sees him travel regularly to North Queensland.
In his spare time, Michael enjoys reading, starting new hobbies and forgetting them, and being outsmarted by his border collie.
